Director of Reimbursement

Reimbursement is considered one of the critical success factors for all products, especially as
changes in the federal and state environments challenge the BP business. Responsible for
setting the global strategy and direction for reimbursement for the entire line of Talecris
Biotherapeutic commercial and development products. Without proper reimbursement, product sales
(~$500 million) cannot be optimized and important market share will be lost. Will serve as the
marketing department expert on pricing and federal, state and global reimbursement issues as it
relates to our entire line of products. Provide leadership in global reimbursement planning
including creation and execution of strategic reimbursement strategy, and communication of
policy and reimbursement strategies to internal and external customers. Ensure alignment with
corporate policy and payment, medical affairs and state and government affairs to optimize
opportunities to maximize reimbursement, increase public awareness and impact administrative
and legislative decision-making. Maintain critical expertise in healthcare policy and payment
issues of national, state, global, third party and employer policy and payment dynamics. Work
proactively with brand teams to define and develop strategies to protect business growth and
profitability and optimize new product introductions and uptake in the marketplace. Represent
Talecris Biotherapeutics as a spokesperson for policy, coverage and payment issues. Be actively
involved in relative associations and special committee projects to ensure Talecris' product
line strategy is best represented. Develop strategies to gain issues-related support for
Physician societies, patient advocacy and other political constituents. Champion the valuation
of Talecris' products in private pay, global, national and state based reimbursement systems.
Serve as in-house resource on product reimbursement, contracting and pricing in order to comply
with all state and federal requirements. Provide relevant training and education programs for
internal and external customers. Manage the Talecris Reimbursement Hotline. Will need to
understand the complete biological product line of products, how, why and where our products
are used by patients. Since each product line has unique properties, this individual will
utilize their expertise to identify the healthcare reimbursement and pricing challenges that
exist and offer recommendations regarding the impact of such decisions. Bachelor’s degree
(masters preferred) in public or health policy, economics, business or related discipline. 10+
years of business experience with a minimum of 5 years in healthcare reimbursement and strategy
development. Must have thorough knowledge of CMS (Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services)
regulations, the new Medicare reform act, contracting, government rebate regulations, pricing,
and third party payor agreements. Must be able to interpret and understand the legal
terminology of contracts, CMS coding forms (ex. HCPCS 1500), state medicaid provider
regulations, and provide guidance to marketing which represents the best interest of Talecris.
Must have a thorough understanding of how the distribution channels work and the various
treatment options (including hospital's inpatient and outpatient guidelines, physicians'
offices, home healthcare agencies) and how each effect reimbursement. Excellent interpersonal,
persuasion and negotiation skills are essential as the position will interact with many levels
of management both within and outside of Talecris, state and federal government officials,
physicians, health care executives, patients and public advocacy groups to champion the
division's reimbursement direction. Ability to think strategically, innovate and apply
technical knowledge to business processes. Strong written and oral communication skills, good
organization skills, and the ability to prioritize important key tasks are essential. Strong
preference for this individual to understand the biological landscape including biological
manufacturing, product usages, and distribution network.
