BUSINESS UNIT ANALYST/CONSULTANT, MIS 

Summary

This position is responsible for studying the overall business and information needs of an
organization/department in order to develop appropriate solution strategies. Responsible for
business analysis, reengineering and work process improvement activities, interviews,
research, best practice identification, flow chart development, etc. As the key liaison
between operational business units and information technology departments, the Business Unit
Analyst/Consultant is responsible for gathering and documenting business requirements that
will effectively ensure that the companyís business and IT strategies are aligned and help
department develop a greater understanding of their unit in order to better execute
deliverables and to prioritize what needs to be done. Permanent placement of candidate in
business unit, following completion of analytical assignment, is likely.


Duties

Assess current department situation.

Become educated in the client work process through interviews and data collection.

Identify areas where department can optimize performance.

Serve as an interim or permanent business unit department manager when necessary.

Provides research and analysis for planned or proposed changes to management in recommending a
course of action for implementing operational changes. 

Develop and implement changes to specific business operations, methods, procedures, policies
and/or systems.

Ensures that changes in operations or methodology are in compliance with internal
policies/procedures as well as insurance regulations.

Serves as an operational and project support liaison by researching business operations to
assist in defining data processing and reporting needs for specific user areas.

Create and maintain all project documents to related to the solution.

Follow department project methodology and guidelines in the development and delivery of system
solutions to the affected client.

Review and understand vendor contracts when necessary.

Perform financial analysis on projects when necessary.

Explore new concepts and solutions.

Recommend possible alternatives to improve department processes.

Recommend solutions to help department understand their performance.

Implement goals and objectives for department success.

Turn analysis into action.


Qualifications

3-5 years of business analysis experience is required.
Ability to effectively communicate technical issues to the business community through both
oral and written presentations.
Project management experience preferred.
Ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple projects required.
Bachelorís degree required, MBA preferred.
Ability to perform various financial analyses required.
Strong MS Office skills required.
Insurance experience preferred.
