Job Description:
JOB SUMMARY: Determines and sets appropriate claim projections and administrative fees for new
groups along with calculating renewal rates and fees for self-funded accounts.

REPORTS TO: VP of Underwriting

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Evaluates claims experience, utilization, and large claim history to develop appropriate
plan designs and cost projections
2. Performs renewal analysis and projections and recommends needed adjustments to plan
designs, current rates, and policy provisions 
3. Negotiate and present complex financial arrangements directly to potential and existing
customers and their consultants 
4. Participates in client meetings as subject matter expert on plan design and financials
5. Provide design and cost related input during sale process
6. Build and maintain strong relationships with field sales force and internal staff including
account management and operations
7. Participates in finalist presentations with Sales department
8. Cultivates and manages relationships with stop loss carriers
9. Acts in a review and mentoring capacity for underwriting staff

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
1. BA/BS degree in business, finance, or equivalent work experience
2. Minimum 5 years large group underwriting experience
3. Experience with various products (CDHP, PPO, POS, HMO, Indemnity)
4. Experience with various funding types (minimum premium plans, fully-insured, etc.) for both
large and mid-size employers
5. Demonstrated client interface and client support experience
Abilities:
1. Demonstrated knowledge of health care industry and health economics
2. Demonstrated knowledge of insurance business including marketing processes, operations,
legal regulations, claims processing and accounting practices
3. Demonstrated knowledge of underwriting principles and practices
4. Demonstrated understanding of alternative funding arrangements including minimum premium,
self-funding, and stop loss products
5. Demonstrated knowledge of healthcare claim data and reimbursement arrangements
6. Demonstrated attention to detail
7. Demonstrated excellent verbal communications, including diction, grammar and tone
8. Demonstrated excellent written communications, including grammar, form, spelling and
punctuation
9. Demonstrated analytical skills
10. Demonstrated ability to organize tasks and manage competing priorities and issues
11. Demonstrated ability to complete tasks within deadlines
12. Demonstrated ability to work independently 
13. Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
