Job Description:
ABIOMED is seeking a Project Leader to join their dynamic engineering group and to assist with
the development of AbioCor, the world’s first completely self-contained replacement heart. 
The candidate will be working closely with an experienced development team and is expected to
contribute to the organization, management and overall development and performance of these

Responsibilities include: 

• Help advance the current product from the prototype phase to the clinical phase 

• Apply project management techniques to ensure project technical, financial and schedule

• Work closely with a multi-disciplinary team to coordinate efforts, identify risks and focus

• Develop a strong functional understanding of all aspects of the project technical operation
including mechanical hardware, electrical hardware, software and clinical operation. 

• Work closely with program manager and upper management to establish and achieve project

• Coordinate the team's goals and drive execution to meet project/program and corporate

• Prioritize task importance and maintain the project teams focus on critical tasks 

• Interface with manufacturing, quality assurance, and regulatory groups 



• BS in Engineering (Biomedical, EE, ME or Software, advanced degree a plus) with 5 years
practical engineering experience; medical device industry a plus 

• Demonstrated ability and personal drive to take ownership of projects, meet design goals,
and execute to schedule deadlines 

• Understanding of systems development and multi-disciplinary interactions 

• Ability to understand and prioritize multi-disciplinary issues, and maintain the project
teams focus 

• Strong hands-on approach with ability to build, test, and troubleshoot designs 

• Strong project management and analytical skills. 

• Ability to lead failure investigations and implement corrective actions 

• Strong working knowledge of FDA's QSR and practical application through SOP's, Verification
and Validation testing is preferred.

• Understanding of, or willingness to learn basic cardiac anatomy and physiology
