Engineering Manager
Reports to: Director of Engineering

Location: Boston

 

Position Summary:

The primary job responsibilities are managing, participating in, and assuring completion of
the day-to-day workflow within the Engineering department, scheduling staff and self for
studio and remote productions, managing equipment installation projects, maintaining satellite
trucks, and providing technical support within the Boston facility and/or wherever necessary.
Person must be organized, personable, detail oriented, very knowledgeable in all aspects of
broadcast technology, with 3+ years experience in a broadcast production environment. Some
travel may be required. 

 

Primary Job Duties
Ensure that field and studio productions have Engineering coverage when required.
Work with Project Managers and Operations staff to determine technical needs for upcoming
productions.
Supervise the activities of the Boston Engineering staff, planning and organizing work
assignments.
Serve as project manager for new equipment installation projects. 
Manage issues reported through company-wide Trouble Ticket system, assigning staff to resolve
problems.
Manage the purchasing and receiving within the department, and work with the Accounting
department to resolve any issues and discrepancies.
 

General Engineering Duties
Troubleshoot any issues during studio and field broadcast and transmission work. This requires
knowledge of signal flow, VTRs, switchers, monitors, audio systems, camera robotics, timing
issues, signal quality control, data communications, and networking/IT.
Follow audio/video system schematics to install broadcast equipment. Requires competency in
assembly of various broadcast connectors, and ability to follow neat wiring practices.
Assist Operations staff with technical production equipment, including cameras, switchers,
audio mixers, VTRs, character generator, etc.
Maintain VideoLink’s IT infrastructure, including IP LAN/WAN, Windows network, servers, and
streaming services.
Provide Engineering support for remote and studio productions, and fill position of EIC and
Video Shader during productions.
Perform routine preventative maintenance on broadcast equipment, including VTRs, cameras, and
various terminal gear.
 

Areas for Growth:

Broadcast system design and R&D: Design broadcast systems within VideoLink facilities. Develop
new technology solutions for providing VideoLink services. Work on development of VideoLink’s
ReadyCam remote camera product.
Satellite truck (SNG) operation: provide backup satellite truck coverage for news, sports, or
other events, when dedicated operators are unavailable.
