Job Description:
Database Administrator is responsible for the management, administration, and availability of
the corporate database environment.  This includes open systems (MS SQL Server) and mainframe
(CA-Datacom) databases.   This position is also responsible for off-hour support of the
existing production and operational environments, and disaster recovery testing.  

 

Position Responsibilities:

Install, configure and secure new and existing databases in accordance with system
specifications and business requirements
Receive, apply and test new software (SQL Server and Datacom) releases, software maintenance,
software patches and hotfixes using standard procedures
Install, configure and maintain supporting database products (Idera, OLAP, Ideal, and Datacom
Server) and third party software packages
Monitor, analyze, and tune SQL Server and Datacom to ensure efficient operation and maximize
performance
Perform general database administration and develop stored procedures, scripts and other
methods to automate database administration processes
Manage database security including the administration of database accounts and related
security roles
Manage backup and recovery strategies for database environment
Participate on Business Recovery Team and participate in annual disaster recovery test
Work with IT management and staff in the identification and resolution of database and
application software problems
Consult on complex projects, existing applications and overall database design and
architecture
Consult on data warehousing initiatives and help ensure acceptable performance and cycle
times
Participation in regular on-call support rotation
 

Qualifications:

Education:  Bachelors degree in computer science or related field
1 - 7 years experience as Database Administrator with focus in Microsoft SQL Server (7.0 and
2000) in the open systems environment or CA-Datacom in a mainframe environment.  Required
experience includes installation, configuration, space management, tuning, back-up, recovery
and high-availability techniques
1 - 5 years experience in capacity planning and performance tuning; using tools such as Query
Analyzer, Profiler, Index Tuning Wizard and GMI
Understanding of MS SQL Server or CA-Datacom architecture
Experience with Windows 2000 and 2003 operating systems.
Strong verbal and written communication skills 
Highly organized and able to multi-task 
Strong problem analysis skills and techniques
Effective consulting skills
