Perform prototype assembly and development tasks as required. Fabricate moderately complex
prototypes and process tools. Develop and build fixtures with minimal supervision. Mostly
opto-mechanical systems. 

 

Key responsibilities of this position include

         Work with engineers, technicians, machinists, assemblers and project team members on
a routine basis

         Implement test procedures (variable control, baseline testing, statistics, pass/fail
criteria, etc)

         Assist in design, development, and fabrication of opto-mechanical components and
test fixtures

         Fabricate and assemble models, prototypes, pre-production, and early production
systems

         Debug, test, & repair systems & assemblies (sheet metal, enclosures, cables,
shielding, fluids/gas handling, PCB modification, etc.) per best standard practices and
procedures

         Contribute towards design improvements/enhancements and problem solutions

         Summarize and document technical results for use by other teams and departments

 

 

Preferred skill set

         Experience using Solid Works 

         Practiced in using Excel, LabView and data collection / processing tools

         Familiarization and understanding of safety practices associated with electronics,
gas, and chemical systems  non-hazardous

         Strong hands on abilities in opto-mechanical assembly and debugging

         Ability to make cables and bread-board prototype circuits

         Skilled with common prototype shop tools, e.g. milling machine, drill press

         Optical shop experience with assembly and alignment of systems

         Experience using basic sensors, e.g. thermocouples and pressure gages

         Able to understand and follow schematics, drawings, and instructions

         Prior exposure to root cause analysis and troubleshooting skills

         Strong in documentation and results-based communications  verbal and written

         Organized and detail oriented

         Experienced as a contributor towards the successful transition of product(s) from
development into production

 

Additional desired skills

         Knowledge of regulatory testing practices (UL, CE, CSA, etc.)

         Knowledge of test and reliability practices (theory of experiments, HALT, etc)

         Strong hands-on abilities in component, module & system test

         Work with vendors, outsource design firms, and contract manufacturers

 

A degree is preferred for this position, but not required. A background in prototyping or as a
technician in an R&D environment is well suited for the position: Real hands on person,
positive, motivated, accomplishment driven, possess a can-do attitude. You will be working in
a small team, setting up instrumentation, hooking up wiring, assembling hardware, building
prototypes, and assisting with the selection of components during the design phase. 

 

Education Requirement: AS, BS, MS
5+ yrs experience in related environment
CAD\SolidWorks and Labview experience
