The Stride Rite Corporation is looking for a Director of Retail Merchandising who will provide
the leadership for Stride Rite concept stores through strategic thinking and business
planning, aggressive pursuit of sales opportunities by region and team development.
Responsibilities will include:
Sales, gross margin and inventory components for all Stride Rite Retail concept stores
including the planning and developing of merchandise assortments, purchasing, managing open to
buy on seasonal and replenishment items and executing all responsibilities in accordance with
internal development and sales calendars.
Assuming a leadership position in developing a merchandising strategy for each concept that
drives comp store growth and chain profitability.
Creating business plans to achieve sales and gross margin objectives.
Developing a team of to effect the business in areas of responsibility.
Developing a strong working relationship with all internal and external vendors to maximize
opportunities with each.
Communicating trends in the market and merchandise needs to Wholesale Product Development
Creating a climate in the Division which welcomes diverse opinions and incorporates ideas of
others into operating strategy.
Partnering with SVP Operations to target regional expansion opportunities and serve as a team
member on Site Selection Committee.
Partnering with Product Development to provide data on market trends and product
Working with the Visual Display Manager to create exciting, timely in store presentations.
Working with Marketing Manager to develop promotions and campaigns by concept, region and/or
Working as a business partner with members of the Retail Operating Committee and offer input
Traveling to stores on a ongoing basis to inspire, instruct and improve product knowledge
awareness and merchandising strategy understanding.
Bachelor's Degree in Business, MBA preferred. 10+ years of retail buying and merchandise
management experience in a specialty store retail environment. Footwear experience strongly
preferred. Outstanding analytical skills and ability to favorably impact division
profitability. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent organizational and
time management skills. Strong negotiation skills. Ability to manage multiple projects in a
team environment. Proven ability to develop executives for promotion. Creative, "out of the
box" thinker, always striving to improve status quo. Strong collaborative skills and the
ability to bring together a group of people and help them manage change. Strong fashion and
trend awareness of the children’s market.
