Two full time career positions located in the UC Davis Health System, Department of Patient
Care Services – Access Services unit, located in Sacramento, working and days are variable.

Responsibilities: The incumbent is responsible for sustaining professionalism in which to
provide his/her assigned patient population all essential non-medical assistance while
completing the following functions for all scheduled and unscheduled admissions; patient
reception, registration, insurance verification, payor notification, authorization
verification, collection of patient payment intake, and referral to financial
Requirements: Problem solving skills to identify and define a problem, identify resources
available to help solve the problem; create viable solutions and take the action necessary to
implement. Knowledge of computer systems used for registration and insurance verification to
register patients. Ability to make independent judgement within established guidelines.
Knowledge of healthcare insurance systems, including but not limited to Medi-Cal, Medicare,
HMO, PPO, fee-for-service, and workers compensation to correctly assign payor plan code,
coordinate eligibility, benefits, authorizations, and explain policies and requirements to
patients. Written and oral communication skills that clearly and concisely provide
information, explanations, and instructions to elicit information from others with varying
levels of ability to understand, including individuals who are ill or distressed. Basic
understanding of diagnosis (ICD-9) and procedure (CPT-4) codes. Working knowledge of medical
terminology to communicate with patients, health care providers and payors. Alpha and numeric
filing skills. Special Requirements: Must be able to work overtime. THESE POSITIONS ARE
