Job Description:
National Publishing Company, established in 1863 and a subsidiary of Courier Corporation, is
the country’s largest dedicated manufacturer of Bibles, religious texts, and medical reference
books.  National Publishing Company is a 24/7 operation and has full prepress, press, and
binding operations. 

 

As the Pressroom Supervisor, you will direct the activities of the Press and Pre-press
Departments in the efficient production of printed web signatures, ensuring all printed
materials meet quality requirements prior to forwarding to the next production process or to
the customer. Candidates must be available to work first, second or third shifts.

 

Responsibilities for this position include:

Ensure equipment utilization is maximized and operating to ensure maximum throughput, quality,
optimal run speed, minimized downtime and improved make-ready speeds.
Monitor production schedule and make appropriate adjustments as needed to maximize efficiency
and reduce down time. 
Ensure all production, labor and material usage reporting performed by employees is accurate
and timely.
Direct adherence to maintenance routines and preventative maintenance schedules designed to
increase equipment reliability.
Manage all press and prep materials and supplies ensuring that material consumption remains at
or less than targeted levels.
Direct and reinforce consistent application of equipment and departmental housekeeping
procedures.
Organize and manage the safety program in the web press and prep departments.
Ensure all required machine guarding, safety devices and personal protective equipment are in
use at all times.
Skills and Experience

A business or graphic arts degree or equivalent training.
3-5 years experience supervising heat-set web press operations 
Strong leadership and motivational skills
Superior strong decision-making skills
Experience in printing on light weight paper
Experience in supervising within unionized environment strongly preferred
Familiarity with Timson presses a plus.  
Intermediate computer skills
Excellent communicator
