Position Description
The New York office of Duff & Phelps, LLC has an opening for an Associate in its financial
advisory business unit. 

Associates are involved in all phases of financial advisory engagements, including due
diligence meetings, financial and qualitative analysis, and presentations of conclusions.
Client contact is usually at the level of VP-Finance and higher, including formal
presentations to Boards of Directors. Engagement teams are normally comprised of a Managing
Director or Vice President who serves as engagement manager, the Associate who has primary
responsibility for quantitative analysis, and an Analyst who assists with financial statement
analysis, public market analysis and industry research. Typical engagements include the

Fairness opinions in connection with the sale or merger of the business 
Solvency opinions in connection with a leveraged buy-out or recapitalization 
Valuation opinions for management stock option plans, management buy-out, leveraged buy-outs,
ESOP buy-outs, gift and estate planning purposes and GAAP reporting purposes 
Private placements of equity or mezzanine financing 
Structuring and executing ESOP buy-outs for closely held companies and management teams 
Public Company Assignments
Fairness opinions and solvency opinions 
ERISA-related assignments, including advising trustee of ESOPs and pension plans as to the
fairness of certain transactions 
Valuations of subsidiaries

Position Requirements:


Candidates should have 3 to 5 years of corporate finance or valuation experience in a bank,
investment bank or with a valuation group and should have a strong command of accounting,
corporate valuation practices, financial analysis, financial modeling and financial research


Excellent oral and written communication skills are necessary as is proficiency in Microsoft
Word, Excel and PowerPoint. 


An undergraduate degree in finance or economics is required. An MBA would be a plus although
work experience or enrollment in a part-time MBA program may compensate. 


Completion of the CFA certification process can be substituted for the MBA.
