Position Summary: The qualified candidate directs global processes and systems, as well as all
financial and department training matters for Ophthalmology therapeutic area (OPH TA).

 

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  
 
1.        
 Global Systems and Processes:

Directs standardization of OPH TA processes globally.  Directs the standardization and
improvement of efficiencies through process improvement within OPH TA.  Serves as liaison in
process improvement efforts to maximize interface between departments.  Identifies
inefficiencies in current processes and current clinical systems (ERA, CTMS); formalizes
requests for enhancements if needed.  Oversees generation of reports and information
dissemination for OPH TA from the clinical trial management system.  
  
 
2.        
 Budgeting and Forecasting:

Drives the annual business planning, budgeting and forecasting process for OPH TA.  Issues
instructions and support to the OPH TA team regarding budgeting and forecasting.  Directs the
collection and consolidation of information, analysis and option proposals, and oversees input
of forecast and budget information into Documentum for Project Management.  Serves as liaison
with Project Management and R&D Finance.  Directs consolidation, monitoring, and analysis of
monthly spend and headcount across OPH TA; provides relevant management information to key
decision-makers.  Directs capital expenditures (budgets, actuals, etc.) and oversees tracking
of regular, full-time, temporary and contractor heads in OPH TA; provides headcount reports to
Project Management.  Acts as advisor on all financial/planning matters in OPH TA.
  
 
3.        
 Department Training:

Directs development and implementation of training programs which ensure that OPH TA staff is
trained and current with respect to OPH TA clinical practices and processes related to
implementation of Good Clinical Practices.  Directs development, implementation and
maintenance of a standardized system to document training.  Ensures timely training for OPH TA
staff in appropriate segment-specific areas (retina, glaucoma, etc.). 
  
 
4.        
 Serves as a member of the OPH TA management team.  Foster a dynamic, matrixed working
environment by appropriately challenging processes, inspiring a shared vision, enabling others
to act, leading by example and encouraging team members to exceed expectations.
  
 

 

 

 

 

Education and Experience:

 

Ideal candidate will have a MBA with 10 years pharmaceutical industry experience; minimum two
years in project management and three years in clinical research.  Candidate could have
PhD/PharmD/ with 8 years pharmaceutical industry experience; minimum two years in project
management and two years in clinical research.
 

 

Essential Skills and Abilities:

 

 

         Demonstrated success in financial assessment, planning and execution of clinical
drug development projects

         Experience in cross-functional aspects of drug development

         Strong project management experience  

         Clinical operations experience 

         CRO interface experience

         Strong team leadership experience and motivational skills

         Strong analytical, managerial and communication skills

         Excellent negotiation, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills 

         Strong work ethic

         Demonstrated initiative

         Multinational clinical trial experience is a plus
