SUMMARY: The Network Engineer ensures that all systems hardware and software are effectively
maintained, operated, and monitored. Provides primary support of the company LAN/WAN
infrastructure, database and application servers. Schedules hardware and operating system
software maintenance in a 24 x 7 environment. Develop and maintain schedules and procedures
for automated system backups. Assist in development of Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery
Tasks and Responsibilities
·Act as principal technical resource for Win 2000, NT and UNIX platforms.
·Research and recommend hardware upgrades and acquisitions.
·Performance management (load balancing, task redistribution).
·Apply firmware and software upgrades to maximize system compatibility.
·Own and maintain data center emergency shutdown/startup procedures.
·Manage network-based backup and tape library software.
·Maintain security-related software (MIMEsweeper, Sophos A/V, Citrix).
·Maintain access control lists and file security on Win 2000, NT and UNIX.
·Maintain Cisco router hardware, IOS software, and configuration settings.
·Keep internal clients and coworkers informed of problem status and system maintenance
·Assist in development of standardized processes and documentation.
.Support other Systems Group staff members as necessary.
·Participate in cross training opportunities to support duties and activities outside the
primary job description.

·5 years experience in NT and/or UNIX systems administration.
·Exposure to Solaris and Tru64 UNIX and SuSE Linux hardware and software.
·Engineering experience, training, and/or certification.
·Microsoft training certification preferred.
