Summary of Job Responsibilities

The Engineering Technician/Sr Engineering Technician is responsible for planning, design,
engineering calculations and construction related to standard tasks for varying scope water
resource systems projects. Provide support services to engineer and/or engineer manager for
activities including planning functions, design, facility layout, cost estimates and/or basic
engineering calculations. Gather and correlate basic data; process and interpret test data.
Coordinate construction activities including contact with contractors, field observation of
construction work for compliance with project requirements, and monitoring of project
schedules. Occasionally manage projects of very limited scope under the direct supervision of
the engineering manager. Assist in field surveys involving elevation shots as well as the
maintenance of a field survey book. Perform record research. Provide a full range of drawing
production work including design and exhibits. Prepare and assemble contract documents.
Maintain CAD workstations, directories and archives.* Perform field surveys to obtain
measurements and/or stake easements and perform field inspections to insure standards are met
and proper records are kept.* Manage projects of limited scope or portions of larger scope
projects under the supervision of the engineering manager.* Correspond with other entities
regarding in the status of company facilities relative to their proposed improvements. Design
subdivision layouts, including reviewing property records and location of mains.* Oversee
relocation of distribution and transmission facilities.* Develop, design and implement
obsolete main replacement.* Prepare and maintain files, records, drawings, reports, budgets
and other data related to engineering projects. Assist on capital and maintenance projects,
including preparation of contract documents, drawings, and specifications.*

Minimum Required Knowledge

Knowledge of and ability to apply theoretical and practical engineering principles to perform
basic engineering (hydraulic, mechanical, etc.) related functions. Knowledge of drafting/CAD
techniques, design and engineering terminology. Knowledge of Company standards and procedures.
Knowledge of property (easement) rights.

Minimum Required Skills

Ability to over see and monitor construction work for adherence to project plans and
specifications. Ability to work with minimal guidance on varied engineering planning, design
and construction related assignments under the direction of an Engineer or other supervisory
personnel. Ability to interpret meets and bounds property descriptions. Computer literacy
including a major word processor program, spreadsheet program, graphics and/or CAD. Possess
strong, detail oriented, analytical and conceptual skills with the ability to communicate both
verbally and in writing.

Minimum Required Experience/Education

Sr Engineering Tech: Minimum 5 years experience as an engineering tech. Associates degree or
technical school equivalent with course work in drafting and engineering required. Engineering
Tech: Engineering drafting expertise and/or previous engineering technician experience
desired.* Associates degree in engineering or engineering technology; or four (4) years
drafting or computer application experience; or two (2) years drafting experience or computer
applications and two (2) years field experience in construction observation or surveying, or
four (4) years field experience in construction, observation and surveying.*
