Boston Financial has current opportunities for an experienced 401K Plan Design – Business
Provides pre-sales support to sales representatives. Evaluates suitability and business
acceptance of proposed plans. Works with Plan to determine plan provisions for creation of new
Conducts a section-by-section, complete review of proposed plan documents to include adoption
agreements, plan amendments, Summary Plan Description (SPD), plan valuations, past
discrimination tests, Form 5500 filings, and others.
Prepares detailed plan review summaries identifying actual and potential compliance issues.
Identifies missing items and comments on plan provisions that may violate Federal regulations.
Provides detailed explanations of the law affecting provisions. Recommends changes in order to
make plan compliant.
Works with sales representatives to provide explanations regarding plan.
Reviews plan documents in terms of operational, administrative and systems aspects. Validates
available capabilities or identifies areas where support may be restricted.
Coordinates activities to insure accurate completion of adoption agreements as directed by
plan sponsors. Completes adoption agreements; prepares Summary Plan Descriptions (SPD), board
resolutions and other documentation as required.
Works with legal specialists to review existing or converted plans, Summary Plan Descriptions
(SPD), service agreements, plan amendments, and other documents to ensure compatibility with
our standard prototypes. Determines need for customized plan and prepares initial draft as
Researches and analyzes general or plan-specific compliance issues.
Keeps abreast of new and upcoming changes in legislation affecting retirement plans.
Generates amendments as requested. Assists Plan Administration to insure that procedure
manuals are kept up to date. Prepares amendments to prototype plans as required by changes in
the law and/or to improve administrative procedures.
Participates in conference calls and meetings with institutional clients.
Knowledge of Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), Department of Labor (DOL),
Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regulations.
Knowledge of plan design and document language.
General knowledge of qualified plans systems, such as TRAC, and overall PC skills.
Strong communications skills. Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and effectively both
verbally and in writing in order to prepare detailed plan reviews and discuss issues with
internal and external parties.
Analytical/Problem Solving Skills. Ability to analyze, evaluate issues and provide guidance
regarding actual and potential problems. Must display keen attention to details.
Organizational and project management skills. Ability to manage heavy and dynamic caseload and
time pressures. Generally conducts multiple plan evaluations simultaneously.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
3-5 years experience in plan administration, including plan review experience.
