DFB Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is a privately held U.S.-based corporation, with a history that
stretches back to the 1930s in San Antonio, Texas.
Since 1992 and under the current ownership, DFB Pharmaceuticals has maintained two distinct
operating affiliates, DPT Laboratories and Healthpoint Ltd. Through DPT Laboratories, DFB
operates a contract development and manufacturing company with vast experience in liquid and
semi-solid manufacturing and topical product development. Through Healthpoint, DFB markets and
distributes DPT pharmaceutical and medical device products in the areas of Tissue Management,
Dermatology, and Infection Prevention.
In late 2003, DFB acquired Phyton Inc. to assist with the discovery, development, and
commercialization of high-value chemical compounds. Phyton's proprietary plant cell
fermentation technology allows for the manufacture of compounds with applications in
pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and other specialty chemical industries.
Our mission is to develop new products and technologies for marketing in the U.S. and Canada,
as well as to expand opportunities by out-licensing certain proprietary brands and
technologies to other healthcare companies internationally.
We are currently seeking to fill a Senior Scientist position within our San Antonio, Texas
location. A senior scientist is expected to be able to successfully navigate moderately
complex research projects and prepare detailed and well thought out short-term and long-term
research proposals. They will work with minimal supervision and may be asked to supervise more
junior-level associates during experimental procedures and for purposes of training. A senior
scientist will also be expected to raise the scientific credibility of the company by
presenting the results of their work at national scientific conferences and through published
articles and patents, when appropriate.
From a technical standpoint, the senior scientist should have strong knowledge in their area
of expertise and a breadth of laboratory skills equivalent to a post-doctoral level of
training in their respective field. We are seeking a Ph.D scientist with experience and
relevant publications in the field of skin science or wound healing. Applicants should have a
general knowledge of skin science and of the etiology of skin diseases, and a specialization
in one of the following areas: molecular biology of epidermal differentiation,
receptor-mediated control of keratinocyte activation, Fas and/or MAPK signaling pathways, or
intermediate filament biology would be an advantage. Alternatively applicants may have a
background in the area of wound healing, with emphasis on the molecular mechanisms involved in
the healing of chronic wounds.
Desirable skills for this position include FPLC, IHC, ELISA, proteomics, FACS, cell culture,
western blotting, and animal handling. Ideal candidates will have a background in
cell/molecular biology, transgenic/knockout mouse models, drug discovery, epithelial
development or skin diseases.
Qualifications and Technical Skill:
Ph.D. Degree in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology or biotechnology with 0-3 years
Possess the ability to operate standard biology laboratory equipment such as cell culture,
microplate readers, SDS-PAGE, and Western blotting. Be proficient with immunohistochemistry
and ELISA techniques. Ability to clone recombinant proteins or develop assays suitable for the
screening of new drug compounds would be a plus, but is not required.
