Job Description:
Ceres, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated, team-oriented research associate to join our
research team at our state of the art research facility in Southern California. The successful
applicant will thrive in our multidisciplinary setting, working with chemistry, molecular, and
plant biology colleagues.

Requirements: BS/MS degree in Analytical, Organic, or Natural Products Chemistry. At least one
year experience in a laboratory research setting applying chromatographic and analytical
chemistry techniques. MS thesis or senior research qualifies towards this requirement.
Experience working with the separation, quantitation, and identification of low molecular
weight (less than 1000 amu) organic compounds is required. Background in Natural Products
Chemistry or Plant Biochemistry is highly desired. 

 

Responsibilities: (1) Extraction of plant tissues and separation of components using various
chromatographic techniques. (2) Chemical analyses using GC-MS and LC-MS instrumentation. (3)
High-throughput metabolic profiling of plant tissues. Data collection, entry, and management
in the context of Microsoft Excel, Access, and other internal databases will also be
required.


 

Skills: Lab experience with most chromatographic techniques such as column chromatography on a
variety of solid phases, TLC, and HPLC is required. Experience with instrumentation for
analytical chemistry techniques such as HPLC, LC-MS, and GC-MS is highly desired. Experience
with instrumentation software, computer data analyses, the use of Microsoft Excel and Access
for data management and automation is preferred. Experience in using these techniques for the
study of plants will be a plus.
