The Director of Online Marketing will play a pivotal role in the success of Hotwire.com. The
person in this role will be the driving force behind our online marketing efforts, a very
significant component of the Hotwire.com business, by developing and executing our marketing
strategy in the critical distribution channels of portal partnerships, affiliates, search
engine marketing, strategic partnerships (including other IAC Travel companies) and other
online advertising placements. Hotwire.com has built a very strong foundation in these
channels since its inception and has recently established new partnerships through
cross-selling among IAC Travel companies. However, we believe that we are at a critical
juncture in which we need to take the next steps in developing more forward-looking strategies
that will position Hotwire effectively to drive success over the coming decade in a market that
is extremely dynamic and in the midst of important changes that will have a significant impact
on the success or failure of the Hotwire.com business over the long-term. Therefore, we are
looking for a breakthrough strategic thinker and a dynamic business leader to take the helm
and drive the strategies that will position Hotwire.com for competitive advantage and
long-term success. This person will be responsible for a significant portion of the marketing
budget, will manage a team of bright and entrepreneurial marketing managers, and will be a
critical senior resource reporting to the VP of Marketing.
Essential Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Comprehensive business strategy development and execution for each of the critical online
channels, including portal/distribution relationships, affiliates, search engine marketing and
other online advertising placements.
Development and successful execution of annual online marketing plan and related forecasts and
performance efficiency targets as part of the annual and monthly business planning process.
Senior stewardship of all existing partnerships with particular emphasis on the key portal and
search engine partnerships.
Lead the new business development efforts against new online partnerships including strategy
development, establishing appropriate economic and deal terms, driving the specific
negotiating strategies, as well as coaching and team management.
People management of a team of approximately 7 individuals including varying levels of
marketing/account managers and analysts.
Develop key technology requirements and specifications; drive the process to acquire what is
needed to provide appropriate resources in tracking, measuring and optimizing online
placements in each channel.
Function as internal expert and centralized knowledge base in the online marketing space to
assist Hotwire senior management, Expedia, Inc. and IAC Travel corporate development and IAC
corporate M&A efforts as well.
Collaborate with other marketing team members and product teams as appropriate to deliver
overall marketing and business objectives for Expedia.com.
Provide senior-level strategic input and guidance to broader Expedia, Inc., IAC Travel and IAC
corporate online marketing efforts which may include recommendations and execution with regard
to integrated partner negotiations/management, vendor relationships, technology, solutions,
The Director of Online Marketing will be accountable for:
Driving online marketing plans, volume and efficiency forecasts as part of overall business
Consistently achieving forecasted volume, growth and efficiency targets.
Establishing long-term, successful partnerships in all channels that meet economic targets and
provide significant opportunities for growth while protecting Hotwire.com from competitive
Build strong relationships with largest partnerships to achieve optimal performance; seek
opportunities for leverage of these partnerships across all of IAC Travel and conversely,
pursue new opportunities among current Expedia, Hotels.com and other IAC Travel partnerships.
Successfully managing and developing a team of marketing managers and analysts.
Driving improved and comprehensive understanding of this space to senior management within
Hotwire and more broadly; function as a key thought leader and an indispensable component of
all high-level strategic discussions with regard to online marketing.
Developing long-term strategic recommendations for Hotwire.com in the very dynamic and mission
critical online distribution channels such that our business is protected from the downside and
are well-positioned for growth.
Candidates must have:
Proven track record in strategy development and comprehensive business leadership.
Consistent history of business-building success and passion for results.
Proven experience successfully managing large online partnerships critical to overall business
Excellent communications, relationship-building and interpersonal skills.
Excellent analytical and negotiation skills.
Minimum of 8 years experience in either business development or marketing; at least three
years in a senior role including broad strategy development and people management.
Minimum three years of online marketing experience is required; a combination of “buy-side”
and “sell-side” experience a plus.
Experience successfully managing and developing a team and collaboration among
BA or equivalent required; MBA a plus.
