SmartCells, Inc. is developing SmartInsulin�, a once-a-day, self-regulating, injectable
formulation for diabetes treatment. The firm is currently recruiting a Director of Animal
Testing to join its management team in Beverly, MA.
Responsibilities: The Director of Animal Testing will work in a fast-paced startup
environment, working on multiple, simultaneous projects to meet critical timeliness. Key
responsibilities will include:
� Oversee in-house group and outside contractors to produce all animal test data needed to
support SmartInsulin product development plan
� Lead animal testing program, develop test protocols, manage and actively participate in
their execution
� Analyze test data, prepare results for presentation to scientists and managers, assist in
preparation of materials for regulatory submission
� Supervise all personnel in company�s animal testing group
� Oversee purchasing for in-house animal testing, select and supervise outside contractors
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:
� Ph.D. in chemistry, biology, chemical engineering, bioengineering, or related field
� 3-5 five years experience in a pharmaceutical or biotechnology in vivo setting
including:
o Experimental work with live mouse and/or rat models; work with large
animal models preferred
o Design, implementation and analysis of Safety Pharmacology, Pharmacokinetic
and Toxicology studies
� Highly motivated and creative individual eager to join leadership team developing an
important new therapeutic
� Understanding of regulatory requirements for animal testing
� United States citizen or have permanent resident status
