Immediate need for experienced Director of IT Operations for an exciting, well funded Internet
service startup. Company has blue-chip investors and a proven management team with senior
executives from eBay, PayPal, AOL, Netscape, Travelocity and more. 

Successful candidate will have extensive experience in network design, database design, system
architecture, administration and security analysis. You will be responsible for planning,
managing and ensuring superior operating performance of real-time transaction processing
systems and web applications. 
This includes: 
� the design, acquisition, installation and maintenance of hardware systems
� automation of the production monitoring processes
� ensuring that system uptime and performance metrics can be maintained
� supervising joint corporate IT and production management personnel, and reporting directly to
the Chief Technology Officer
� selection and management of move between collocation facilities
� effective verbal and written communication with Engineering and Management personnel
� establishment of operations process and procedures including crisis management, release
management, and change control

Other major characteristics of successful candidates:
� Minimum two years experience working in 24x7 production environment
� Proven problem solving skills with an emphasis on quick problem resolution
� Ability to work on many tasks simultaneously in a high-pressure environment
� Mastery of unix shell scripting to develop automated administration environment
� Unix and NT system administration skills
� Knowledge of relational databases and comprehensive DBA skills
� LAN and WAN network knowledge
� Programming and design experience with java, perl and other common utility languages
� System integration skills to install and configure multiple applications
� Ability to manage system patches, password and file share auditing, network scans, DMZ and
data security encryption
� Thorough knowledge of network security and audit-ability, as well as backup and recovery
� Expertise in managing all phases of a project (planning, analysis, design, build, testing and
implementation)

The successful candidate will have:
* A BS in electrical engineering or computer science from a top-tier school (MSCS a plus)
* 10+ years experience in software and systems operation management
* Experience in high transaction production systems architecture in a start-up environment 
* Experience with Linux, Java and MySQL
